FIRST GENERATION

1. Abraham JACKSON called 'Abe', was born in 1850 in Virginia. He was born into Slavery in Virginia. Abraham was 15 years old in 1865 when slavery was abolished. His parents were both born in Virginia. In 1870, Abraham (age 20) and his wife Mary STRONG (age 18) were residing in Huntsville, Madison County, Alabama. Abraham as early as 1869 and had lived in Huntsville Alabama at least 10 years before moving on to Tunica County, Mississippi. His first three children Emma, William and Robert and possibly a child by the name of Parliee (-- who died prior to them leaving Alabama) were all born in Alabama. By 1877, Abraham JACKSON (age30) and Mary (age 23) were residing in District 1 and 2, Tunica County, Mississippi along with their children who at the time were Emma ( age 10), William (age 8), Robert (age 5), Bessie (age 3), and Lucy (age 2).

By 1910, Abraham (age 60) and Mary (age 55) had been married 40 years and were residing in Tunica County, Mississippi. By 1920 Abe was residing in Tunica County, Mississippi. By this time [1920] he was Widowed and living in his home were his children Hester (age 31), Sam (age 29), Mary (age 25). Also living in Abe's household in 1920 were Birdie Jackson (his granddaughter-- age 13) and Wesley Jackson (his grandson -- age 12). Not certain at this time who these children belonged to, but they are believed to be Hester's children.

Abraham JACKSON was married to Mary STRONG (daughter of  Jefferson STRONG and Martha SCOTT) on December 21, 1869 in Huntsville, Madison County, Alabama.

Mary STRONG called 'Mollie', was born in November of 1853 in Alabama. Both her father and mother were born in Alabama as well. According oral family history, Mary is believed to have been of Indian descent. This is very likely the case as Madison county Alabama was located in the heart of the Cherokee country and the area surrounding Madison county Alabama as well as Madison county itself were both extremely heavily populated by the Cherokee Nation of Indians during that time in history. In researching the 'Strong' surname in Alabama, it was found that the vast majority were considered Mulatto (which denoted anything other than White or Black) at that time. Mary Strong's parents and siblings were all listed as Mulatto pretty much validates the fact that she was part Indian (or Mulatto) herself. Mary died sometime between 1911 and 1920.

Other evidence of her Indian heritage is that many of Abraham and Mary's children and grandchildren had definate Indian features and (redish) skintone and some of them were very light in color and had a redish undertone to their skintone ('redbone') as well as very fine hair and flat noses. She appeared on the census in 1880 in District 1 and 2, Tunica, Mississippi. Mary died in Tunica County, Mississippi.

Abraham JACKSON and Mary STRONG had the following children:
