STROTHER - FIRST GENERATION

THIS iS AN ACCOUNT OF THE STROTHER FAMILY HISTORY aS KNOWN AT THIS TIME

1. (Unknown) STROTHER was born into Slavery in Virginia. The name of this relative is currently unknown but he is given mention here in order to make reference to his three sons Beverly, Jack and Richard.

Beverly Strother, Jack Strother and Richard Strother, are the oldest Strother ancestors that have been identified to date.  These three brothers were residing nearby one another in Pope, Perry County, Alabama as early as 1863 or even earlier.  All three of the brothers were born in the state of Virginia in the early 1800's, but had already migrated to Alabama sometime during or prior to the Civil War period -- whether through slavery or of their own will.

The Strother family surname is correctly spelled S-T-R-O-T-H-E-R. However, during the times when most Blacks and Whites were not fully educated, the name was misspelled severely. It was spelled as it was pronounced, hence some of the notable misspellings are: STRATHER, STROUGHTER, STRODDER, SHOTHER, STRAUGHTER, STROTHERS and STROWDER just to name a few.

??? STROTHER married ???.

(Unknown) STROTHER and ??? had the following children:

child+2 i. Beverly STROTHER.
child+3 ii. Richard STROTHER.
child+4 iii. Jack STROTHER.
